Clean cooking as an energy-access issue

Bayraktar said approximately two billion people worldwide still lack access to clean cooking. Referring particularly to cooking conditions in Africa, he said traditional fuels and methods cause serious health and environmental problems. The minister argued that LPG could offer a practical and cleaner option than traditional cooking fuels in communities with limited infrastructure. His assessment was presented as a proposal to use LPG as an alternative to existing cooking methods. [Source](https://enerji.gov.tr/haber-detay?id=31943)

The announced plan for COP31

The ministry reported plans to raise clean cooking at COP31, which the announcement described as taking place the following month in Antalya. Bayraktar said climate action should advance alongside energy access and economic development. He also invited the international community to contribute practical, inclusive and realistic solutions. The statement sets out an intention to put the issue on the agenda; it does not announce an adopted COP31 decision, new legislation or a binding implementation timetable for clean cooking. Three priorities for the LPG industry

Bayraktar’s first priority was strengthening the supply chain through diversified sources and reliable infrastructure. The second was ensuring safe and affordable LPG access for communities lacking clean cooking and modern energy infrastructure. The third covered efficiency, safety standards, innovation and investment in sustainability. He said Türkiye was ready to cooperate in all three areas. The minister also argued that LPG’s flexibility, portability and accessibility provide consumers with an alternative, particularly during supply disruptions. Figures shared on Türkiye’s market

Bayraktar said Türkiye ranked second in Europe for total LPG consumption as of the previous year and second worldwide for autogas consumption. He also said the country ranked first for the number of autogas stations and LPG-powered vehicles. According to the figures he shared, Türkiye has 10,000 autogas stations and 5.2 million LPG-powered vehicles, representing approximately 30% of its registered vehicle fleet. Bayraktar also said Turkish LPG companies expanding internationally were bringing their experience to those markets. [Source](https://enerji.gov.tr/haber-detay?id=31943)
