Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a method for systematically evaluating the inputs, outputs and potential environmental impacts of a product or service across its life cycle, within a defined goal, functional unit and system boundary. Studies are conducted under the ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 framework. ISO 14040:2006 and ISO 14044:2006 remain the current core LCA standards; published amendments must be taken into account when applying them. For EPD studies, the general framework is ISO 14025:2026, together with the relevant PCR for the product category and any applicable sectoral standards. ISO 14067:2018 is the currently published version, reaffirmed by ISO in 2024.

EPD publication and third-party verification are separate processes governed by the relevant programme operator, PCR and verification rules; this service summary does not imply an automatic EPD publication or verification guarantee.
The four main stages of LCA
The goal-and-scope definition, life cycle inventory (LCI), life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) and interpretation stages are carried out iteratively.
Environmental impact categories
Categories such as climate change, ozone layer depletion, acidification, eutrophication, photochemical ozone formation, particulate matter, ecotoxicity, water use and resource use can be assessed depending on the LCIA method selected.
Key data required for the study
Production volume and product recipe/BOM data; raw material and auxiliary material consumption; electricity, fuel, steam and other energy data; packaging, transport and logistics data; water use, wastewater, waste and scrap information; use and end-of-life scenarios depending on the study's scope.
