The Industrial Wastewater Management Symposium 2026, hosted by the General Directorate of Environmental Management, examined approaches spanning industrial water use and wastewater recovery. According to the ministry’s announcement dated 28 September 2026, the event formed part of the Project for Determining Türkiye’s Industrial Wastewater Profile (TENAP). It brought scientific research together with industrial implementation experience. [Source](https://cygm.csb.gov.tr/haberler/endustriyel-atiksu-yonetiminin-gelecegi-ele-alindi-306836)

TENAP aims to establish the sectoral picture

The announcement describes the symposium as taking place on 28–29 September at the ministry’s conference hall, bringing together public institutions, universities, research organisations, industry representatives and wastewater stakeholders. Its objectives included connecting academic work with practical needs and examining industry's technical challenges. Transferring scientific knowledge and implementation experience into public policy, while strengthening cooperation, were further aims. TENAP seeks to establish the current condition of industrial wastewater through scientific data and develop sector-specific management approaches. Prevention at source alongside treatment

In his opening remarks, Environmental Management Director General Fatih Turan pointed to growing pressure on water resources and said wastewater management should not be confined to treatment and discharge. His approach encompasses water use, wastewater generation, reducing pollutants at source, reuse and recovery as an interconnected process. Lower water consumption, reuse within production processes, and recovery of resources and value from wastewater were identified as components of this approach. These were management principles expressed in his remarks. [Source](https://cygm.csb.gov.tr/haberler/endustriyel-atiksu-yonetiminin-gelecegi-ele-alindi-306836)

Technology and operational experience discussed

The event featured 51 presentations across three parallel rooms, including 23 delivered by invited speakers. Discussions covered 15 thematic areas, with four poster presentations also displayed. Alongside TENAP work, participants considered Türkiye’s current industrial wastewater situation and future needs. Topics included treatment and recovery, water efficiency, advanced treatment technologies, micropollutants, microplastics, artificial intelligence-supported applications and sector-specific management approaches. The announcement does not provide numerical performance results for these topics. [Source](https://cygm.csb.gov.tr/haberler/endustriyel-atiksu-yonetiminin-gelecegi-ele-alindi-306836)

Regulatory discussion is not a new rule

A special closing panel examined future perspectives for industrial wastewater management and recovery alongside legislation and sectoral practices. Environmental permits, measurement, monitoring and inspection were among its discussion areas. The programme ended with a general evaluation. The source reports these discussions as an event: it announces no newly adopted rule, proposed legislative amendment, compliance timetable or additional obligation for businesses. The panel’s subjects should therefore not be interpreted as provisions that have entered into force.
