Türkiye outlines five-year sustainable electronics management project
The ministry outlined a project aimed at extending electronics’ useful lives, expanding repair and reuse, and recovering valuable raw materials.

Türkiye’s Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change outlined the objectives of its implemented “Sustainable Electronics Management Project in Türkiye” in an announcement dated 14 October 2026. The five-year project aims to keep electronic products in use longer and return their valuable materials to the economy when they become waste. From production to recycling
The project covers mobile phones, tablets, computers and televisions across production, use, repair and recycling. According to the ministry, the objective extends beyond processing devices that have reached the end of their useful lives: it seeks to make their entire life cycle more sustainable. Extending product lifetimes and expanding repair and refurbishment are central areas of work. The broader aim is to keep products in the economy for as long as possible. Activities planned over the five-year period include recovering gold, silver and copper, alongside other valuable, strategic and critical materials. Safe management of hazardous substances is another project objective. The ministry warns that damaged batteries and electronic components in e-waste stored at home for long periods can release harmful substances into the environment. Its announcement identifies preventing the release of mercury, lead and cadmium as an objective of safe recovery, alongside returning valuable materials to the economy. The project aims to develop systems that make it easier for consumers to hand over electronic waste and to increase recycling facilities’ technical capacity. Strengthening producers’ responsibility in collection and recovery processes is also among the stated objectives. The ministry separately reports that it issues permits and licences to electrical and electronic equipment treatment facilities for environmentally sound processing. Separate collection, delivery to authorised points and safe recovery are presented as connected elements of its e-waste management work. Published on World E-Waste Day, the announcement describes the project as implemented while setting out activities and intended outcomes for a five-year period. Stronger producer responsibility and improved handover systems are presented as objectives, not as newly enacted obligations. The text does not provide a project budget, exact starting and finishing dates, or numerical collection and recovery targets. Its concrete focus is therefore the project’s scope and planned areas of work, rather than a new compliance timetable.
